Funny how a quick sketch can often capture my original vision for a drawing better than the drawing itself... especially when this sketch came after the drawing.

I'm calling this one, "Over-thinking." Time to redo the drawing!

House for a Gas Station...

Well, it's been a year and a half since I've posted something, but I was busy with a little game called "Brutal Legend."

Now that some free time has landed on my lap, I hope to do regular postings, perhaps turning these sketches in to a series.

This first one, titled "House for a Gas Station," is work in progress. This sketch may get re-worked, or may get developed more. We shall see...

After 6 1/2 years at my last job, it came time for me to move on to different pastures. Instead of decompressing during my in between jobs down time, I've been packing and moving all non essential (i.e. clutter) out of the house in preparation for staging and open house viewing. Yes it's not a great time to sell, but it ain't the worse yet either.

Next thing I know, it's time to start my new job at Double Fine Productions, working on this awesome game.

Wow, a second post on the same day - that's a record for me. Here's the second idea (unfinished of course) for the Dominance War design entry. It's robotic with biological elements; it has two arms and four legs, with the hind legs providing support in attacks and added speed in chases.

So I'd been working on some sketches for the Dominance War character design entry. Alas, I've missed the deadline, but it gave me a reason to work on something. Here's a creature inspired by "The Thing" except with more bio-mechanical elements.

It's already the middle of March. Holy crap, where did the last 2 months go?

I hate to use the cliche, but I have been very busy with my new website, fredleeportfolio.com.

It's been a long time coming, but I finally have an online portfolio. It's a start, and it will do for now, but the plan is to learn some flash, and some website authoring so that I can do what I really want to do with my online portfolio.

I'm also trying to drag lead on parchment more in between my busy schedule. I'll be scanning some of that onto this blog soon. Really. Soon. For now, I'm changing my blog title. It's quick and manageable.

Wow - I can't believe it's already 2008 - time is warping by!

In honor of the new year, and also to hide the fact that I haven't been able to create any new drawings for the blog yet, I'll put up some of my older drawings for now. Enjoy!

Facebook...

I'm spending way too much time on Facebook...but it's been fun in some sense finding old friends, then setting up different applications on my facebook page. It's turned into this little project (that I don't have time for), but it's like a new toy. I'm such a dork!

Well, that's more like jogging man, and not very far at that.

I got the OK from my doc to start light jogs that will last no longer than 15 minutes, and I responded, "that's great, but I'll be lucky if I can jog for 15 minutes, let alone half hour!" And sure enough, I jumped on the treadmill (settings are incline set to 1, speed set to 5, or 12 minute mile), and I lasted half a mile, or 6 minutes. I continued to walk for .1 mile, then resumed jogging until I reached .75 miles, at which point I decided it was good enough, especially for a warm up before doing squats, deadlifts, incline bench press, and pull ups.

So I would say this was an accomplishment, given that I haven't ran in over 9 months (between my lung "thing" and recovering from a sprained ankle), half a mile ain't so bad! Eh, with persistence, I'll get back to my normal 3 - 5 mile distance in a few months.

I'm back (for now)

Work's completely consumed my time in the past month - let's just say it's been like enduring large rolling waves of ocean while huddled in a small life raft. The ocean is somewhat calmer, but by no means have the waves subsided.

Our team saw "I Am Legend." It is a viscerally entertaining film, although the last act was disappointing. Without giving anything away, the last act seemed tacked on without much deeper thought to what proceeded it. That being said the rest of the film was fun and engaging, and in particular the first act was truly scary. There are beautiful vistas of an abandoned Manhattan, as well as frightening scenes involving a pitch black abandoned warehouse. Lastly, I was surprised by Will Smith, who was surprisingly engaging and sympathetic without resorting to his old one-liners or comedic flourishes. Oh HELL YEAH!

Alright, gotta run again. Time to replace my Linksys router (piece of crap) with my new Netgear RangeMax router, which by all accounts, is consistent and solid.

Unable to sleep from deep, ball shaking, body convulsing coughs, what else is there to do but to open a blogger account.

The idea is to use this site as a hub to my different interests and hobbies, including the band I'm with, Sofajunkie, drawings, movies, food, and my friends' own sites.

In addition, this site will eventually host my online resume.

But, one thing at a time.
